My new happy place: hand embroidery

My new happy place: hand embroidery

I am the type of person that struggles with patience and does not sit down to relax. When I start something, I have to finish it immediately or I feel like I have a task left on my to-do list.

I was pregnant with my second child when I realized I needed to find a hobby that was a way for me to express myself and get some time to myself. All moms know this can be a real challenge. I wanted to dedicate the little bits of time I had throughout the day to something that would get my mind off of the daily struggles and repetitive household chores.

I came across multiple Etsy listings featuring hand-embroidered sweaters using yarn with custom names. I wanted to create a sweater for each of my boys. I watched a YouTube video on Chain stitching and bought the necessary supplies to create my own sweaters. I enjoyed making these sweaters so much that I wanted to push myself a little further. Next, I wanted to make my son a "wee-woo" as my son calls it or a firetruck to anyone else that isn't a toddler. I drew a firetruck with a water soluble fabric pen onto the green sweater and began stitching. This definitely took longer than I had expected but I was LOVING it! Then I decided my unborn baby needed one too for his first winter. My toddler decided the baby needed a tractor on his sweater. So I stitched out a green tractor for him on a cream sweater and that sweater turned out ADORABLE!

I wanted to continue making sweaters so I made some for my nieces, friends, family, & myself. I couldn't put the needle down and ideas were just flowing into my head! I decided I could start a small business and see where the journey may take me.

Summer rolls around and I know sweaters will not be popular again until Fall/Winter. This is when I decided to push myself even further and pick up another needle for embroidery floss. This process was very intimidating for me and much more complicated. The possibilities are truly endless and the details are amazing when using embroidery floss. I took the dive and began embroidering bubble rompers, t-shirts, dog t-shirts & hats. Again, I fell in LOVE!

My journey is only starting and I cannot wait to see what the future brings with my small business. I truly enjoy hand-embroidery and create something new every single day. I am lucky to have found a creative outlet that allows me to express myself and spend some quality time in my happy place. 🥰
